No Problems Expected

The storms that came through over the weekend caused no major problems in Suisun City.

The next storm systems coming into the area are not expected to be major events likely to result in potential flood damage. Nonetheless, Public Works crews will continue to patrol known problem areas and inspected drainage systems to ensure they are operating at peak capacity.

Friday Afternoon Update

The main portion of the most recent rain activity moved east of Suisun City by about 2 p.m. today. High wind warnings were in effect for the immediate area until 4 p.m.

All local streams and storm channels worked well, even during the unusually high tide just before noon. Some localized street flooding occurred, but receded quickly as the immediate showers abated.

The National Weather Service forecast indicates persistent showers and rain through early next week, but the wind will abate.

Public Works crews will continue to monitor the unusual high tide events expected on Saturday and Sunday.

Any emergency notices issued by the Solano County Office of Emergency Services will be broadcast on KUIC 95.3 FM.

Friday Morning: No Major Problems

Rains and strong winds arrived in Suisun City overnight and this morning causing some trees to fall and branches to be strewn across City roadways.

Public Works crews checked drainage systems and found them to be working well with all creek and channels open and flowing well below capacity.

Sandbags remain available to help address localized flooding issues should those develop.

High Tides

During the storms expected through Sunday Jan. 6, several higher than usual tide events are expected in Suisun City. Tides of more than 5 feet are expected at

• 11:09 a.m. Friday
• 11:43 a.m. Saturday and
• 12:19 p.m. Sunday.

Heavy rainfall and storm flows in local creeks and channels that coincide with high tides can hinder drainage systems in the lower lying portions of the City, particularly in Whispering Bay, the Waterfront District and Lawler Ranch.

All drainage systems in those neighborhoods are at full capacity after crews inspected and cleaned them during a Citywide maintenance effort during the past several months. Homeowners in flood-prone areas are urged to be vigilant and secure their property with sandbags before flooding begins.

Public Works crews and City public safety personnel will be deployed throughout the upcoming storm event to respond to any emergencies that arise.

Sandbags Now Available

Free sandbags are available for Suisun City residents on a first-come basis at these locations:

·         Parking lot behind the Police Station on Civic Center Blvd.

·         Parking lot between YMCA & Fire Station on Pintail Drive at East Wigeon Way

 

Public Works staff will monitor the supplies and restock as possible during the storm event. First priority for Public Works crews will be preventing flooding and solving emergency situations.
